HIGHER PRICES FOR FAT SHEEP (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, Oct. 2. At the Lorneville sale to-day, with the exception of a few pens of medium and fair quality wethers, the yarding of 934 fat sheep consisted of young ewes. Values for the better quality sheep showed an improvement of from 2s 6d to 3s, compared with those ruling last week. The prices ol ligh 1-weights and unfinished sorts were from Is to Is 6d firmer. Good quality wethers made from 56s to 59s 6d; medium, 53s to 56s 6d; light-weight, 44s to 47s 6d; and unfinished, 40s to 435. Good quality maiden ewes made from 48s to 50s 9d; medium, 42s to 43s 6d; light-weight. 37s to 40s: and unfinished, 30s to 33s 6d.

The varding of 149 fat cattle was slightly' bigger than that forward at last week’s sale. About half of the stock forward was of good quality, the remainder being light and unfinished sorts. Prices were slightly easier. Prime heavy bullocks made to £25; good quality sorts, £lB 10s to £22; medium, £l6 10s to £l7 10s; and light-weight down to £l4. Extra prime cows made to £l9 15s; good sorts, £l2 10s to £ls; and medium, £9 to £lO 10s. Good quality heifers made to £l4; medium, £ll 10s to £l2 10s; and lightweight down to £8 10s.
