RUAPEHU VIOLENT
GREATEST ACTIVITY YET RECORDED (PA.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 2. Reporting from Mount Ruapehu today, Mr A. C. Beck, of the Geological Survey, states that the mountain is!in the most violent state of activity yet recorded. Ash-laden steam rose to 30,000 ft during the week-end. On Sunday, Mr Beck added, he had a glimpse of the interior of the crater, and saw that the vent had increased in size to about half the diameter of the crater. There was a great explosion about every three hours.
