SOUTHERN CANDIDATES

PSALM IN GOOD FORM (Special) INVERCARGILL, Sept. 25. There was little training .work of interest at Invercargill to-day as the majority of the candidates for the Otago Hunt Club's meeting had been galloped yesterday. The Southland horses will be taken to Wingatui on Thursday. Sing Sing, Signal Officer, and Bayreuth were all worked on the plough. Psalm, who appears to have Improved out o£ sight with the recent sprint tasks she has been given, was not asked for anv really serious task. She sprinted home two furlongs with the two-year-old String Band in 27sec, and was much too good for the Man’s Pal colt. Psalm, who was carrying a lot of condition when recommissioned, has pleased greatly duiing the last fortnight, but it has not been possible to gain any line on her ability to run out a mile at this stage. Lisheen (T. J. Boyle) and Siglow (K. Wilson) were schooled over four hurdles. Lisheen gave a dashing display, while Siglow, who had not schooled for some months, jumped more carefully without making a mistake. Siglow will be raced on the flat at Wingatui on Saturday, and both he and Lisheen will race over hurdles at the Dunedin spring meeting the following week. Rhine Lord is the name under which the three-ycar-old half-brother by Siegfried to Royal Lancer will race. He is a solidly-made youngster, and few three-vear-olds have improved as he has since "he was taken up a few weeks ago. He will probably be raced at Gore next month. . _ . W. E. Ellis will resume riding on Saturday His mounts will include Walau King and Psalm. Other riding engagements aie -—b. .T. Langford, Wave Line and Royal Coon: G. Barclay—Sing Sing. Bayreuth, Fuzzy Wuzzy; C. F. Low, Heidelberg; T. J. Boyle. True Range, Boolamskee; B. S. Wilson. Siglow. Wantwood; K. Thomson, Safclight.
