OTAGO HUNT MEETING

GOOD FIELDS ENGAGED

TRACK WORK AT WINGATUI The acceptances received for the Otago Hunt Club’s meeting on Saturday constitute an attractive card, and the meeting should be a first-class cur-tain-raiser for the Wingatui racing season. The Otago Hunt Cub Steeplechase has drawn 13 acceptances, and the Tally-Ho Handicap has closed with a field of 19. including horses that have shown good form. With such an attractive card as a basis, the meeting, should be a most successful one. A cold breeze and a heavily overcast sky caused training operations at Wingatui yesterday morning to be carried out under unpleasant conditions. All the work took place on the inside grass and the sand track. Strip and Boloyna covered five furlongs on the sand in Imin 12 l-ssec, and Amorlad (not extended) and Foxchase covered the same ground in lmin 11 2-ssec.

Lance Wing cantered to the ftve-fur-long post on the sand and then came home in a good working gallop. St. Nattar and Joygiver worked in company on the sand, Tenor Royal and Brockie went out to work in company, but the gallop was spoilt by the former running in from the grass to the sand track. Brockie took lmin 25 l-ssec to cover six furlongs. Robert and Bath Slipper covered six furlongs in lmin 24sec. Sir Saladin (W. Guyton) shaped well in a school over four flights of hurdles. , , , Filibeg (S. G. Shaw) and Jacksonville (W. Guyton) were schooled over the permanent fences on the steeplechase course. They began at the big sod wall and continued over the post and rails, the sod wall, and the ditch, and then went along the back to the post and rails, the water jump, and the brush fence leading back to the straight.. Filibeg gave a good display, but Jacksonville jumped a bit high and lost ground at some of the jumps. Others who worked included Islay Downs, Bonny Flight, Victory Flight, Special Flight, Lunaria, Sir Tague, Justitia, Kohara, Robot, Real Chase, On Silver, Miss Hula, Shipmate, Steward. Gold Dance and Bootees.
