CHURCH SERVICES

OFFICIAL OBSERVANCE ON SUNDAY Short services were held in Dunedin churches yesterday, and services will also be held to-day. Sunday has, however, been reserved for official thanksgivings by most denominations. A short service was held in St. Paul’s Cathedral and in most of the Anglican parish churches last night. This morning at 8 o’clock, there wis be Holy Communion in all Anglican churches, and on Sunday an official thanksgiving service. . A combined service for worshippers of the Trinity Methodist, Central Mission and Moray Place Congregational Churches was held in the Moray Place Church last night. Other Methodist services were held at Mornington, St. Kilda, Roslyn. and Maori Hill. Services to-day will be held at Caversham at 7 p.m. and a combined service for the Cargill Road and St. Clair Methodist Churches at the Cargill Road Church at 7 p.m. Green Island Methodists will hold a combined service a. the Green Island Town Hall at 7 o’clock to-night. . Short services were held in all Presbyterian churches in Dunedin last night. The official thanksgiving service will be held on Sunday. . . A Solemn High Mass of thanksgiving was celebrated at St. Josephs Cathedral at noon yesterday, the Mass being followed by the singing of the Te Deum.” Bishop O’Neill addressed a crowded concregation. The music for the Mass was sung by St. Dominic* College Choir, and by a choir of priests.
