CITY COUNCIL VACANCY
MR W. A. HUDSON APPOINTED The vacancy on the Dunedin City Council created by. the death of Cr J. W. Munro, M.P., was filled at the fortnightly meeting of the council last night by the appointment of Mr W. A. Hudson. / When the matter came up for consideration at the beginning of the meeting under the heading of “Ad-journed-Business,” Cr D. G. McMillan raised a point of order. He stated that the subject should not be under that heading because it had not been before the council for it to be adjourned. He submitted that the matter should be considered under “Other Ordinary Business.” The town clerk (Mr R. A. Johnston) explained that he had previously presented a minute to the council, directing attention to the fact that a vacancy had been created, and actually the matter was stood over, which was tantamount to its being adjourned. The Mayor (Mr D. C. Cameron) said he did not think it mattered whether the subject came up at the beginning or end of the meeting. He moved that the vacancy be filled by the appointment of Mr W. A. Hudson. The motion was seconded by Cr J. McCrae and carried unanimously, and the new councillor was appointed to the committees on which Cr Munro had served, the General Committee, the trading committees, and also as a member of the Metropolitan Transport Licensing Authority. Mr Hudson stood as a member of the Labour “ticket” at the election for the City Council last year, and was highest on the list of the unsuccessful candidates.
