ANOTHER BRIEF RESPITE

AUCKLAND GAS CONSUMERS (P.A.) AUCKLAND, June 8. Another small consignment of coal to add to the spasmodic trickle of supplies that has come to the Auckland Gas Company during the last two weeks is on its way from Westport, and will give the Auckland gas consumers an extra one and a-half day’s respite. A service will he given tomorrow from 6.30 to 8 a.m. and from 5 to 6,30 p.m; The prospects for providing a midday service on Sunday were, not bright to-night,- but the general manager of the company, Mr R. Worley, said consumers would be advised later. _ The relief supply of coal started its journey to Auckland this morning, when a small coastal vessel carrying 200 tons left Westport. It was destined for the Golden Bay Cement Works, but was diverted by the Government. It is expected to arrive at New Plymouth to-morrow morning to discharge its cargo, which will be sent by rail to Auckland. . , , The coal, which is expected to arrive on Monday, will enable the company to maintain its restricted service until Tuesday night. The gas received by the consumers in the city to-day was of a very poor quality and many people experienced great difficulty in cooking with it.
