EIRE “MISREPRESENTED”!
Sir, —In your issue of May 29 last you quote Mr de Valera as complaining that there "was persistent misiepresentation abroad that somehow the people of Eire were ruled against their will by a form of dictatorship” (and) “it has been forgotten that Eire in the past 12 years has had six general elections.” I wonder what Mr de Valera calls a general election! We use that term for a system of voting where people vote as they please. Are the people of Eire free to vote like this? They, like Mr de Valera himself, are just as free as the people of Spain under Franco—or the people of most of the South American republics.—l am, etc., Dunedin. June 7. Ace.
