NATIONAL ACCOUNTS
Sir, —People who are telling us'that a country should have a balance sheet and a valuation of its assets presumably have some idea as to how the task should be approached. It might further be presumed that they hold that assets should be valued at what they would sell for, not at what they have cost. If we can imagine ourselves as wanting to sell New Zealand, where would we go to seek buyei-s, and what means have we of knowing what such buyers would offer? Can we be referred to any country which makes a valuation of its assets and the basis on which such valuation is made. —I am, etc., M. June 8
