AN INDEPENDENT POLITICAL PARTY

Sir, —Under this heading Mr Moss points out to us the great services that were rendered to this country by Mr Downie Stewart. I think Mr Moss ought to be a little more consistent in his statements, as presumably he himself has little use for Mr Stewart, or he would not' have attempted to deprive him of his parliamentary seat in the 1928 general election. Mr Moss says we should have men who are able to rise above party. This statement sounds funny when it comes from a man who has tried several parties and had no success with any of them. If I remember rightly, Mr Moss contested the Dunedin West seat in 1928 as a United Party candidate. Before that I am informed that he was a member of the Labour Party. Mr Moss has -sought various local body honours under the banner of an independent, and at the last general election he contested Dunedin North in the interests of Democratic Labour. I would like to ask Mr Moss what party he is going to try next—or is he going to form a new party of his own? Perhaps that is what his letter to you is leading up to.—l am, etc., Consistent. North-East Valley, June 6.
