BURNSIDE MARKET
FIRM SALE FOR PRIME OX
GOOD VALUES FOR FAT LAMBS Entries for the weekly sale at Burnside continue to come forward in excess of those usual at this period of the year. An entry of 375 head of cattle was forward yesterday, and there was a large proportion of medium and ordinary sorts. The fat sheep entry did not reach the figures of last week and the quality barely compared with that of the previous sale. The yarding of lambs was a fairly large one, and was made up mostly of medium and light weights. The sale for all classes was a good one throughout Store cattle had a fairly large entry and, considering the state of the fat cattle sale, the prices appeared to be well in vendors' favour. The yarding of baconers was a small one, and last week’s values were well maintained, particularly anything showing size and quality. It was noticeable that the trade did not compete to the same extent for the lighter weights. Fat Cattle. —There was again an oversupply in the fat cattle pens, the yarding being 375. Quality generally was only ordinary, the number of prime cattle being insufficient for the trade. The demand for best quality ox showed an improvement of fully ZOs a head on last week, while the medium and lighter sorts received poor attention. Had it not been for the presence of graziers, these would have suffered to a greater extent. There was a better demand for the right class of cow and heifer, but anything too fat or wasty met with a poor demand. Quotations:
