POULTRY FEED
DRASTIC CUT IN SUPPLIES (P.A.) AUCKLAND, May 23. A serious deterioration in the poultry food supply position is revealed in a drastic cut in supplies ordered by the Wheat Committee, which is the controlling authority for New Zealand. The committee lias advised merchants that the new ration basis will come into force on June 1 and based on the results of a poultry questionnaire issued some months ago, bran and pollard will be allocated as follows: For a flock of 300 birds and over, 1731 b of pollard, and 1001 b of bran for every 100 birds a month; for flocks of 100 to 299 birds, 501 b of pollard and 501 b of bran per 100 birds; for flocks of 99 birds and under, 201 b of pollard and 301 b of bran a month. The committee points out that the allocations do not allow for increases or new flocks and absorb the whole of the available feed. City merchants today pointed out that the basis of rationing adopted by the committee was much more severe on small flocks than on large. This was regarded as unfair discrimination against the small man and was expected to cause great hardship.
