BEEF PRICES EASE SHARPLY (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 23. There were reduced yardings of fat stock at Addington to-day. The fat cattle market showed a sharp easing, but fat and medium-weight wethers maintained recent values. The store sheep were mostly cull lots and sold accordingly. Store Sheep.—The entry numbered 3441, including 1904 lambs. The quality generally was only moderate, and the bulk of the offering showed tire effects cf the recent bad weather, which also affected prices. Good lambs sold at late rates, but inferior sorts were difficult to .quit. The best price for ewe lambs was 255, and for wether lambs 20s 4d. There were only a few pens of ewes in lamb, one cf young sheep making 23s 6d. Twotooth wethers sold up to 28s. Fat Sheep.—There was an entry of about 5000, compared with 6000 last week, and it included several pens of prime wethers, which sold from 45s 4d to 49s Id. A consignment from Southland failed to reach the reserve. Freezing ewes sold well up to schedule, best making from 23s to 28s 4d. Best young ewes sold up tO Fat S Cattle.—The entry numbered 630, compared with 711 last week. The quality fell short of recent standards. Except for a few prime pens of steers and also of heifers, the market was depressed from the outset, being down for unfinished steers by about 20s a head. Passings of secondary steers were numerous. Best beef made to 42s per 1001 b, goed to 365, and secondary to 28s. Extra prime steers made to £22 2s 6d, prime £ls to £l7 ss, ex'ra prime heifers to £l4 17s 6d. prime £9 10s to £ll 10s, ar.d extra prime cows to £l3 12s 6d. Fat Pigs—'The yarding of porkers was much smaller than for several weeks. Good-quality pigs again sold well, bin others were hard to quit. Ch .-ppers were in heavv supply, and prices eased by 10s to 20s a head. Baconers were in small numbers, and the sale was the best for some time. The average price per lb was 9d to 9Jd.
