GENERAL DE GAULLE

TO MEET AMERICAN PRESIDENT WASHINGTON, (Rec. 7 p.m.) May 21. After a conference with President Truman, the French Foreign Minister, M Bidault, announced that General de Gaulle will meet the President at Mr Truman’s request. M. Bidault said the meeting, which he hoped would not be distant, will be a new step towards closer French and American friendship, which was dear to both peoples. “ I was glad to tell Mr Truman that France will do her utmost in the fight against Japan, against whom General de Gaulle, in the name of the French people, declared war at the moment of her first act of aggression against the United States. French land forces and the French Navy are ready to participate in both current and future operations under the Allied Supreme Command.”
