FUTURE COMMITMENTS
DELAY CAUSES UNCERTAINTY An indication of the uncertainty prevailing as to the future commitments of New Zealand in sending troops abroad was given during a sitting of the No. 7 Armed Forces Appeal Board in Gisborne. A large number of appeals, which had previously been adjourned,' mainly on the ground of public interest, were back again for further consideration within a few weeks. The chairman, of the board, Mr W. H. Barry, said it was only possible to mark time, pending the Government’s decision as to its future replacement programme. It was certain that a considerable number of men would still be needed as replacements for the New Zealand Division, but the degree to which the armed forces were to have priority over essential industry naturally came under review.
