MOTOR CAR THIEVES
OPERATIONS IN SYDNEY “ BLACK MARKET” FOR TYRES SYDNEY, May 21. Car thieves are active in Sydney, and since January 650 cars and 66 motor cycles have been stolen. In this period more than 50 arrests have been made in the city for car stealing and stripping. Only 23 cars and 15 cycles have not been recovered, but more than one-third of the vehicles were found stripped of their tyres. “Black market” prices for tyres in Sydney have soared to fantastic heights and the police have evidence of four tyres, not of first-class quality, selling for £125 a 6et.
