TECHNICAL COLLEGE
MONTHLY MEETING OF BOARD The monthly meeting of the Board of Managers of the King Edward Technical College was held yesterday, and was attended by Mr J. J. Marlow (in the chair), Mrs M. E. Mcrns, and Messrs H. R. Bunn, V. R. Crawshaw, W. G. Cocking, C. J. Hayward, F. L. Lawrence, J. M. Patrick, and L. Sanderson. The director of music at the college, Mr F. A. Callaway, reported that the newly-formed symphony orchestra of some 60 senior players would give a public performance in the Burt Hall on the evening of Saturday, June 9. It was proposed that there should be no charge for admission. , The programme would be of a very different type from that usually presented at the school’s concerts in the Town Hall, and upon' the result of this initial performance would depend the form of future concerts —such as the advisability of taking a bigger hall and the possible opening of a subscribers’ list. It was agreed to accept an offer by the Commercial Broadcasting Station to make a record of a programme of music by the senior military band. The recording would be played over the local station. Mr Callaway stated that in the usual school concerts only a small portion of the programme could be given by the band, and the offer by the commercial station would undoubtedly prove a stimulus. Mr Hayward was reappointed the board’s nominee on the Disabled Servicemen’s Re-establishment League. On the recommendation of the Finance Committee it was decided to invest £SOO at 3 per cent, in the 1945 Victory Loan.
