OWAKA

Fancy Dress Ball.—Under the auspices of the Owaka branch of the W.D.F.U. a successful fancy dress ball was held last week. There was a very large attendance, and the judging of the costumes proved a difficult problem. The results were as follows:—Women: Miss W. McGimpsey 1, Mrs Capon 2. Mrs Morris 3. Men: Mr McDougall 1, Mr McNab 2, Mr K. Cubitt 3. Music for the dancing was supplied by Mrs Reeves, Miss G. McArthur, and Mr J. Knox. On behalf of the sponsors, Miss M. Roger thanked all who had assisted in making the function a success. Social at Glenomaru.—A social and dance in honour of Mr and Mrs Russell Gawl, who were recently married, was held in the Glenomaru Hall. There was a large attendance, despite unfavourable weather. For the dancing, music was supplied by Mrs Mcßratney and Miss Wood, and Mr Gawl was the M.C. A recitation by Ronny Rayne, of Dunedin, was much appreciated. R.S.A. Reunion.—The annual reunion of the Owaka Sub-association of the R.S.A. was held on Saturday last. Mr W. Gorman presided over a fair attendance of local members. Owing to the rain and the state of the roads many members from outlying districts could not attend, but those who did spent a pleasant evening. The presence of younger members from the present war has given new life to these social gatherings, and Saturday's function gave evidence that the association itself would continue to prosper and fill a place of increasing importance.
