GOLD SCANDAL
SPECULATION IN CHUNGKING FANTASTIC PROFITS MADE WASHINGTON, May 18. Details of the alleged multi-million dollar Chungking gold scandal, involving gold lent by the United States, are coming to light in Washington despite the rigid Chinese censorship. The scandal a premature leak of the Chinese' Government’s decision to raise the official price of gold from 25,000 to 35,000 Chinese dollars per ounce, thus permitting Chungking speculators to make fantastic profits in a few hours.
The Chinese Minister, Dr T. V Soong, before leaving Washington for San Francisco said drastic punishment awaits those involved.
The Associated Press says that at least two Chungking banking officials, and possibly 18 others, face impeachment.
