LIBERATED PRISONERS
RETURNED HOME BY AIR CREWS’ UNTIRING WORK (Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, May 19. The R.A.F. has so far brought back nearly 95,000 British and Empire war prisoners. Transport Command, in addition to routine duties, has flown nearly 35,000 men direct to England, and Bomber Command has brought home nearly 60,000. The air qrews fly long hours and work untiringly to bring home the war prisoners, who wait patiently on German airfields, inwardly sick with excitement at the prospect of seeing home again after so many years. , . .. . . Everything is done for the comfort of the war prisoners, who are provided with newspapers, magazines, cushions, blankets, and special rations to prevent air sickness. When they arrive on English airfields bands play and WA.A.F.’s se.rve tea. The men■ consumed half a ton of cake and 15,000 cups of tea on one station in one day.
