BALCLUTHA

Scottish Society.—At the annual meeting of the Clutha Scottish Society the report stated that the society had experienced a very successful year and that the financial position was sound, the sum of £6O having been invested in national savings. The membership had shown a substantial increase during the year. Office-bearers for the ensuing year were elected as follows:—Chief, Mr G. Houliston: senior chieftain, Mr J. G. Anderson; junior, Mr B. Gold; accompanist. Mrs H. Major: honorary auditor. Mr F. Cooke; council -immediate past chief I. Masters, Past Chiefs J. Copland and A. E. Paterson. Messrs W. Shaw and G. New Cemetery.—The Balclutha Borough Council lias acquired land for a new cemetery, comprising io acres on the main road, north of the present cemetery'. A new type of cemetery on the lines of the Rliru Lawn Cemetery at Christchurch is being proposed by Cr Carter, and the matter will be fully discussed at the next meeting of tiie council.
