RADIO PROGRAMMES

Sir,—“Hear a thing often enough,’’ it is said, “ and you will believe it and it will become part of your life. The truth of that saying bids fair to be exemplified in present and future generations by the type of radio programmes heard constantly over our stations. For such a consistent lot of domestic quarrelling, harsh, coarse words, impatience, intolerance, and insolent remarks in conversation—and that is to mention only a few of their negative aspects of life—the serials broadcast to us are " the limit. There Is probably not one serial, no matter how happily it starts, that does not within two or three presentations seethe with murders, tortures, accidents, hysterical weeping, and all the possible and impossible accompaniments of misery and atrocity. , Children, receptive as they are, will, after hearing regular broadcasts of such " tripe,’’ become firm .believers lhat domestic conditions such as our radio so constantly depicts are normal, and that life, instead of being a very happy, joyful experience, is something into which as much bullying and growling as possible are to be crowded, and they will be led to regard constant illnesses, operations, etc., as commonplace. We undoubtedly

become what Is mentally fed to us, and what we think, 50 ' thanks tO , our Government broadcasts and in conjunction with our extravagant social security scheme, we bid well to become in 9 few years time the most ill mentally, and consequently the most ill physically, people in the world.—l am, etc., Happy Thought.
