TAXI-CAB SERVICES

Sir,—Through the courtesy of your columns I would like to bring to (he notice of the public and also of the licensing authorities, a grievance which requires at least an explanation from the taxi firms concerned. I rang for a taxi to catch a (rain at Balclutha and was informed that the taxis were restricted to a two-mile limit from the depot. I have reason to believe (hat this is a direct result of the refusal of the taxi firms to take hires from the Finegand freezer. Those taxis are granted licences to give service to the public, and, while I agree that they should not be abused bv such as trips to the nearest licensed hotel I consider that people outside the two miles are just as entitled to have a taxi to catch a train as those inside the borough. Perhaps the taxi proprietors can give a good explanation of their action.—l am, etc., Missed the Train. Kaitangata.
