MEETING OF COMMITTEE

A meeting of the committee of the Forbury Park Trotting Club was held on Thursday night, those present being Messrs B. S. Irwin (chairman), H. Halliday J. E Bruton, A. Ferguson, C. R. Hadfield, and A. H. Todd. The chairman made reference to the death-of Mr John McDonald, who, he said, was the oldest member of the Tahuna Park and Forburv Park Clubs and a member of the committee of the former club. He moved that the sympathy of the club be extended to Mrs McDonald, and members stood in silence as a mark of respect. A letter was received from the New Zealand Trotting Owners, Trainers, and Breeders’ Association asking if the committee could give further consideration to the matter of using the division system in preference to the balloting out of horses when more than the safety number accepted for any race.—lt was decided to adhere to the use of the ballot system. ■The Programme Committee submitted a programme for the club’s winter meeting, with stakes amounting to £3OOO. an increase of £750 over the amount distributed at the winter meeting in 1943. The principal race will be for a 4.34 class, with a stake of £BOO. The classes for the events for unhoppled trotters will be 3.46 and 5.3. The principal sprint event is for a 3.5 class. Other events for pacers are a two-mile 4.42 class, a mile and three furlongs 3.12 class, and two events of a mile and a-half for 3.38 and 3.34 classes respectively.
