OTAGO HARBOUR
MONTHLY MEETING OF BOARD The monthly meeting of the Otago Harbour Board was held last night, and was attended by Messrs R. S. Thompson (chairman), W. Begg, P. G. Connolly, M.P., R. Walls, F. E. Tyson, H S Watson, A. L. S Cassie, A. Smith, j’Preston, and G. F. Booth. City Boundaries The Department of Internal Affairs advised that the reclaimed land between Donald Reid’s and Black Jack’s Point had been included in the City of Dunedin.—“ This is very satisfactory,” said the chairman, “as it clears up the position of a portion of land known as ‘no man’s land.’ Our tenants will now be provided with water and drainage facilities in the same way as other citizens.” Donation A request from the Shipwreck Relief Society requesting that the board make its annual donation to the funds of the society was received, and it was decided to make a grant of £lO 10s. Kaitangata Floods Mention of the Kaitangata floods was made in the report of the acting resident engineer (Mr A. C. Swanson), who said that a gang of men, including the board’s foreman of works, Mr W Gardiner, was loaned to the Lower Clutha River Trust during the recent flood crisis at Kaitangata, and was later transferred to the public works when that department took over the works. Pile-driving gear, a winch and boat were despatched to the scene of operations. The district engineer of works in charge had stated that the board’s men had materially assisted in saving the Kaitangata lock from collapsing and in repairing the breach in the stop bank of the Molyneux River through which the serious flooding occurred. Mr Gardiner was specially praised for his skill, initiative, and energy. Finance
