FIRES IN CHILEAN SHIPS
DUE TO AXIS SABOTAGE (Rec. 7 p..m) SANTIAGO, Mar. 21. The Chilean newspaper Hora said that Axis sabotage was responsible for fires on three Chilean ships recently, causing a loss of 101 lives. The paper instanced the passenger-cargo ship Mapocho, which was set on fire after leaving the port of Iquique. and also of the navy training ship Lautaro and the merchantman Naguilan. The Associated Pi ess points out that Iquique has long been the centre of Japanese activity. The Mapocho disaster showed “ a shocking similarity to that of the Lautaro.” f
