CLINTON EWE FAIR
Approximately 13,000 ewes were forward yesterday at the Clinton ewe fair before a large attendance of buyers. The entry contained some attractive annual drafts, the quality and condition being generally good, although a number of lines were late-shorn, which detracted somewhat from their appearance. The sale commenced with keen competition, the first pen, a top lot of annual draft ewes, making 30s. This price .was equalled later on two or three occasions. Bidding continued free until the later stages of the market, when competition fell away and slightly reduced prices had to be accepted to effect sales. The twotooihs forward, with the exception of a few pens of good quality, were mostly medium down to small types. The best lots demanded attention, but the others met with an erratic demand, and prices were in many cases not up to expectatl<Quotatlons: Best tussock annual drafts, 28s to 30s; medium, 23s to 265; best fouryear paddock ewes, 25s 6d to 30s; good full and failing-mouthed paddock ewes, 21s 6d to 245; failing-mouth ewes, 16s 6d to 20s; good two-tooth ewes, 40s to 445; medium. 35s to 38s; small, from 28s.
