ST. JOHN AMBULANCE BRIGADE
Kaikorai Ambulance Division.—l his division reports having completed a successful year of service. Following the promotion of the divisional supenntendent (H. H. Gilligan), Mr G. H. Woodhouse has assumed his duties as acting superintendent., and Private F. M. Ritchie is now acting as divisional secretary. Social Committee.—The name ot Mr W. H. Saunders (deputy chairman) was Inadvertently omitted from the list of ofhcers elected at-the annual meeting of the Social Committee. _ Transport Workers. —An interesting lecture was given recently to those interested in transport work by Mr Herbert, garage proprietor. The lecture was of particular value t'o those who might be called upon for driving ourposes. • Mr Herbert was thanked for his practical address. Public Duties.—The cublic probably does not appreciate the number of cases attended to by members ol' the brigade during the course of a season on football. hockey, and other sports grounds. During the oast year in the Otago district a total of 1464 cases were 1 rented by members on duty. While the majority were cases of slight injury, a number required further treatment at hospital. Members are often called uuon t'o attend cases in their hours off duty, no fewer than 3974 such cases being treated last year. Members of the brigade also give voluntary assistance to the nermanent drivers, and for the year 1944 they attended 3382 times, representing 15.516 hours’ driving t'me. These volunteers handled 3180 cases. The figures given include the Oamaru returns of 263 removals and 639 hours. In Dunedin the work has been undertaken bv the woman's section (1926 removals, 6592 hours). Kaikorai (554 removals, 2505 hours). Hillside and Dunedin Suburban Divisions, and by members of the Corps Staff.
