AIR ASSAULT ON GERMANY BERLIN AGAIN BOMBED (Rec. 11.30 p.m.) LONDON, Mar. 21. R.A.F. bombers were over Germany last night. A synthetic oil plant at Bonlen and an oil refinery at Hem j mingstadt, near Heide, were the main objectives. Berlin was bombed by Mosquitoes for the twenty-ninth consecutive night. About 400 United States Fortresses and Liberators, escorted by over 300 United States Mustangs, yesterday attacked the Blohm and Voss U-boat yards at Hamburg, two oil refineries, including the refinery at Hemmingstedt, near Heide, and targets in Harm burg. Four bombers and two fighters are missing. R.A.F. bombers yesterday afternoon attacked the railway yards at Recklinghausen and Hamm. Nearly 3000 sorties were flown against Germany from Italy, and a record weight of over 2000 tons of bombs was dropped on marshalling yards in Southern Germany yesterday, the main targets being Muhldorf and Lanshut, both north-east of Munich. One enemy aircraft was destroyed in the air and three on the ground, says a communique. Twelve of our aircraft, including one heavy bomber, are missing. The Air Ministry states that the viaduct at Arnsberg, south-east of Hamm, is known to have been breached when R.A.F. Lancasters attacked it with 22,0001 b and 12,0001 b bombs. United States headquarters states that photographs taken during American air operations against industrial targets in Southern Germany have shown that heavy concentrations of bombs fell on all objectives. The German News Agency war reporter, Walter Seidlitz, admitted that Allied bombing had destroyed railway installations in Northern Italy to such an extent that road transport had almost entirely replaced rail transport.
