DR SUTCH NOW IN SYDNEY SOUTH-WEST PACIFIC SUPPLY DIRECTOR (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Mar. 20. Leave of absence from the public service has been .granted to Dr W, B. Sutch, advisory economist to the Ministry of Supply, who has been lent to the Far Eastern division of U.N.R.R.A., with headquarters in Australia. Dr Sutch, who left Auckland for Sydney yesterday, will be director of supply and requirements for the South-west Pacific area, an appointment temporarily held by Dr W. A. Chudson, who was recently in New Zealand on his way back to the United States. . Dr Sutch will be concerned with the procurement of supplies for U.N.R.R.A. in Europe, the East, or elsewhere so long as they are available in an area which includes Burma, the Netherlands “East Indies, Indo-China, Malaya, the Philippines, and the Pacific Islands generally, as well as Australia and New Zealand. The co-ordination and assessment of the relief requirements in the same area will also be his responsibility. Dr Sutch is the workers’ representative on the Railways Tribunal, and it is expected that his appointment with U.N.R.R.A. will involve his resignation from the tribunal.
