CANADIAN PARLIAMENT
OPENING OF SESSION (Rec. 10 p.m.) OTTAWA, Mar. 20. A general election will be held shortly after the parliamentary term expires on April 17. said the GovernorGeneral, the Earl of Athlone, in a speech from the Throne when opening the sixth session of the nineteenth Parliament. The speech, one of the shortest on record, referred to necessary financial provisions for the period until the new Parliament opens, and urged the widest possible parliamentary support to the Canadian delegation to the San Francisco conference.
The Governor-General said: “The war continues with relentless fury, and the Allied forces are advancing to what is believed will be a decisive victory. Canada is more proud than ever of the achievements of its fighting forces.”
