HARRIS AND EWING BAT WELL
In a two-day match between Waitaki A and Town A, Waitaki .won the toss and elected to bat. Conditions were not pleasant, and there was a cold wind. The opening Town bowlers bowled well, but without luck. Nevertheless, two wickets were down for 18 runs when P. Harris settled down and made 54, though he was not happy against Currie and VVilson. He hit a 6 and five other boundaries. W. G. Smith and Ewing were then associated in a good partnership, which carried the score from five for DG to six for 188. Smith batted well and had made Go when he was caught off Kelk, but Ewing was somewhat lucky with his 54 not out, giving several chances which were not accepted. The last four wickets fell for 21 runs, Mclvor taking them all. His average was just over nine runs per wicket. The side was ail out for 204 runs, extras contributing 23. At stumps, which were drawn at 5.30 p.m., owing t 9 the poor light, Town had lost three wickets for 41, Mclvor making 24. In one-day matches, Waitaki B beat Town B bv 58 runs, and Waitaki C beat St. Kevin’s by 28 runs. Waitaki B made 130 runs (Steel 45). Sumpter took three wickets for 30 runs. Town B made 72 (Nuttall 25, Uttley 15 not out). Reed took three wickets for 20 runs. Waitaki C made 117 (Barlow 37). Ryan took four wickets for 24 runs. St. Kevin’s scored 80 (Holloway 41). Brownlee took three wickets for 'll runs, and Sumpter two for five.
