SEA SCOUTS
FIRST NATIONAL CAMP ANDERSON’S BAY SUCCESSES AT REGATTA (P.A.) BLENHEIM, Jan. 5. Nearly 200 Sea Scouts from all over the Dominion are attending their first national camp, which is being held at Ngakuta Bay, near Picton. They are engaged in a variety of activities, including a series of nautical competitions. The camp, which is under the direction of the Dominion Sea Scout Commissioner, Mr A. J. Black, of Dunedin, was to have been inspected yesterday by the Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall, in his capacity as Dominion Chief Scout, but the visit was cancelled on account of adverse weather. - v In the inter-troop regatta the new standard boat which has been adopted for all Sea Scouts in New Zealand was used. These boats are 47ft in length and row four pairs, of oars. They are equipped with sails. The following were the results of regatta finals:— Aorangi Cup (juniors under 16). Jellicoe (Invercargill) beat CastleclifT. Ten crews competed. '
Washbourn Cup (seniors under 18). Scott’s Own (Timaru) .beat Jellicoe. Eight competed. 1 Leslie Shore Memorial Cup (test of rowing style and oarsmanship, senior). Anderson’s Bay, 85 points, 1; Scott’s Own, 83, 2.
Nelson Cup (open).—Anderson's Bay beat Scott’s Own. Eight competed.
Wellington Cup (style and oarsmanship, juniors).—lron Duke (Nelson), 90, 1; Jellicoe. 85, 2. Cornwell Shield (aggregate points for rowing, swimming, and rescue). —With the rowing events completed the leading troops are Scott’s Own and Jellicoe 25 points each, Anderson’s Bay 20.
