HIGHER APPOINTMENTS
MINISTRY OF LABOUR’S PLAN (Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 5. The Ministry of Labour is establishing a higher appointments branch, which will have 13 regional headquarters in London, and provincial cities, at which men of all classes in business and professions above the level of foremen and clerks can seek posts and employers seek men. , According to a White Paper published yesterday, the plan is the result of recommendations by a committee representative of industry,. commerce, and the universities. Mr J. S. Duncan, Deputy High Commissioner, represented Australia, and is believed to be the first representative of the dominions to sit on a committee appointed to advise the British Home Department. The High Commissioners of New Zealand, South Africa, and Indochina nominated; observers for the meetings. Close attention will now be given to the prospects of post-war overseas employment. Contacts are being made with Governments and undertakings having overseas branches.
