The only satisfactory remedy is to relay the affected section. •’Farmer," Taieri.—The following is an effective method of waterproofing sacking—Heat a kerosene tin three-quarters full of tar till near boiling point, and then stir in gradually enough powdered lime (air-slaked is best) to make a creamy mixture. When it froths it is ready to use and gives a surface like black enamel. Sacking thus treated is pliable and will last for years, and is wind, rain, and insect-proof. Better results can be obtained by using. Stockholm tar if it is procurable, but the ordinary coal tar can be used. If the sacking is not 100 coarse in the weave, raw linseed oil (two parts), mineral turps (one part), and terebine (one part) may be substituted for the tar.
