EXPLANATION BY MR NASH
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 5. The Minister of Finance, Mr W. Nash, commenting to-night on the Ottawa cablegram regarding munition contracts in Canada, said that, while he had no official advice abo.ut any Order-in-Council, the announcement was probably associated with the mutual aid agreement between New Zealand and Canada which was reached in Ottawa at the end of June last. To the extent that the supplies referred to were munitions of war they automatically qualified for mutual aid in accordance with the agreement for each country to utilise its own resources to the maximum in the war effort.
