OBITUARY
MR ETHELBERT HEYWOOD The death ''occurred in Dunedin yesterday of Mr Ethelbert Heywood, a former choirmaster and organist at St. Paul’s Cathedral, and a successful music teacher in the city. He was the youngest associate of the Royal College of Organists in England at the time of receiving this honour. He later became a fellow of the college. Before coming to New Zealand,. Mr Heywood was organist at St. Helens, Lancashire. As organist and choirmaster at St Paul’s, Dunedin, for 26 years before his retirement, in 1940, he was well known for the high standard to which he developed the cathedral choir. He is survived by his widow and a ter.
MR W. H. FIELD (P.A.) WELLINGTON. Dec. 13. The death occurred in Wellington today of Mr William Hughes Field, who represented Otaki in the House of Representatives for 33 years up to 1936, when he retired from politics. Mr Field was born at Wanganui in 1861. and was a well-known practising barrister and solicitor in Wellington. He fought for many years for an improvement in the railway service between Palmerston North and Wellington, one very long-needed train, “Field’s Express,’’ being named after him.
