THE POLICE FORCE
PAY AND HOURS OF WORK REVIEW BY GOVERNMENT (F.0.P.R.) WELLINGTON. Dec. 13. Information as to what was being done to meet the request of the police force for an increase in salaries to meet the increase in the cost of living was sought by Mr A. S. Richards (Govt. Roskill) in an urgent question addressed to the Minister in Charge of Police, Mr P. Fraser, in the House of Representatives to-day. Mr Richards said it was alleged that the police were little better off than they were 20 years ag Mr Fraser said he regretted that he could not give details that would establish the fallacy of the latter part of Mr Richards’s statement. The last action of the retiring Commissioner of Police Mr D. J. Cummings, was to make representations in regard to some form of increase in pay and in regard to the hours of work, and these were' receiving the earnest consideration of the Government at the moment.
