An appeal by R. J. Seeque against the granting of permission to the City Corporation to transfer him from the position ot single team driver to that of spare driver at the same rates of pay, was disallowed.

An appeal against a direction that she should accept employment at the lloslyn Woollen Mills in the capacity of a mill hand, was lodged by Mrs C. Kerr.—The appellant said the ground of her appeal was hardship, based on domesiie reasons.— The assistant manager of the Roslyn Mills stated that the mills were desperately understaffed at ihc present time.—The appeal was allowed, Mrs Kerr to report to the district man-power officer for direction into alternative essential industry. Gordon and Golch, Ltd., appealed against a direction that Miss M. H. Gray, an employee of many years’ standing, should join the civil nursing reserve in Wellington. Mr J. S. D. More appeared on behalf of- the firm and Miss Gray The man-power officer stated that Miss Gray was a fully-trained V.A., and 15 of these were Urgently required from Dunedin for one year’s service.in Wellington.— Decision was reserved, Miss Gray toi report for a medical examination. S. D. Macpherson appealed against a direction to Miss I. M. McMillan, at present employed by him, to transfer to the civil nursing reserve in Wellington.— The appeal was allowed. An appeal by .A. J. Westlake (Mr C. H. Stevens) for permission to terminate his employment with the Railways Department in Dunedin, was opposed by the department. Mr C. H. Stevens, who represented the appellant, said that he had served in the last war, and in the air force in the present war. His wife was at present living on a farm belonging to them near Tauranga, and he was. willing to accept essential work in that locality.—For the department Mr P. Cole said that the appellant was a semi-skilled worker at Hillside, and he would be difficult to replace.— Permission was granted for the appellant to terminate his employment with the Railways on December 15, 1944, and he was ordered to report to the man-power officer in the Tauranga district not later than January 8. , , . „ Miss E. L. Wilson appealed against a direction that she should accept employment with J. A. Bradley, Ltd., ill the capacity of machinist. —The appeal was disallowed, the appellant to report for employment as directed not later than January 10, 1945. .. J. B. Wootton appealed against a direction that Phoebe Wootton, at present employed by him, should accept empl&yment at the Seacliff Mental Hospital as a probationer nurse. Miss •’Wootton also appealed.—Decision was reserved. Appeals by Boots, Ltd., and Miss H. M. Healey against a direction that. Miss Healey should report to the Noradene Hospital as a nursing aid were allowed,. that of Miss Healey being on medical grounds. The committee allowed an appeal by McKinlay’s Footwear Company, Ltd., against the refusal of permission sought by (hem to terminate the services of Mrs E. Marr. ~ . An appeal by Thomas Alexander Greaney against the deduction of one day s pay from his wages as a.fine for absenteeism was allowed.
