SPRINT TO SING SING (P.A.) GORE, Oct. 23. The Gore Racing .Club’s spring meeting was held in fine weather. The track was firm and there was a good attendance. The totalisator handled £40,816, compared with £40,866 10s last year. Results :

NOTES ON THE RUNNING

A boisterous wind made conditions rather unpleasant at the Gore meeting yesterday. Sal's Pal was well placed all the way in the President's Handicap with a good berth on the rails. He won nicely, but all out, from his stable mate, Good Cast. Atreus was a fair third and Royal Lancer, after being badly placed in the early stages, finished fourth. The Stewards’ Handicap was spoilt by the start. Winning Flight, who was left at the post In the Waimea Hack Handicap, found compensation by getting a break, and she and Sing Sing practically had the race to themselves. Sister Sal and Aurora Australis were two of the last away, and Lyndal stood on the mark. The Highwciglit Handicap

Astros, Alpine and Red Prize led out of the straight in the High-weight Handicap. Dearo went up to the leaders in the back and Alpine commenced to drop away. Red Prize and Dearo led round the top, and Maharajah moved up. In the run home Maharajah wore down Red Prize by a neck. Dearo was three lengths away. Sumra was fourth, with Jack o’ Lantern and Alpine next. Tlic Novice Handicap

Listen In got the best of the start In the Novice Handicap, and led out from St. Nattar and San Quentin, Kai Pal and a strung-out field. Listen In led round the top from St. Nattar, San Quentin, and Kai Pai. Listen In kept clear and won by four lengths from Kai Pal, who just beat St. Nattar. Salabond was fourth, and Plutocrat was next. President’s Handicap They got away from a good line In the President’s Handicap, but Royal Lancer and Royal Chorus were slow to move. Southern Sail, Sal’s Pal, and Good Cast led out of the straight, and they showed the way along the back, where Kohara and Royal Lancer were last. Royal Lancer moved up and so did Kohara. Coming round the top Southern Sail, Good Cast, and Sal’s Pal were still showing the way. Good Cast led into the straight, where Sal’s Pal put in a claim and won by a ■short length from Good Cast. Atreus was -two lengths away, with Royal Lancer close up. Fair Trial and Kohara were next. Waimea Hack Handicap Winning Flight and Divorced were left in the Waimea Hack Handicap, Green Note, Bonny Flight, Linloch, and Nigger Lad were smartest out. Pink Gauntlet dropped his rider after going three furlongs. Green Note led Bonny Flight into the straight, where the latter came on to win by one length and a-half from Linlock, who finished well and beat Green Note by a length and a-half. Girl Friend, who was slow away, finished fourth, with Inscrutable and Great Coon next. . The Balfour Trot Volo Bond soon took charge In the Balfour Trot and racing past the stand at the end of half a mile was followed by Larry Grattan, Understudy, Sandy Grey, and Arion Thorpe. Volo Bond opened up a lead of six lengths turning Into the back. Volo Bond continued to show the way to the straight to Grelba, Understudy and Arion Thorpe. Volo Bond stalled off Understudy and won by a head. Arion Thorpe was a neck away, with Grelba next, followed by Cumnock and Turi Queen. - • v Stewards’ Handicap In the Stewards’ Handicap Winning Flight got well away in a bad start and Lyndal was left. Winning Flight was well clear racing to the far turn from Sing Sing, and these two led round the top. Winning Flight led into the straight, but Sing Sing came on and won by four lengths. Silver Lily was a lengh away. Invulnerable, Hearth, Sister Sal and Aurora Australis were next. The Otama Trot Passing the stand in the Otama Trot Sylvia Direct, Trevathan, and Grattan Bells were clear of Guy Zolock and Quite Happy. The order was much the same down the back. Quite Happy led into the straight from Grattan Bells, Sylvia Direct, and Trevathan. Quite Happy finally won by two lengths from Sylvia Direct, who was a length and,, a-half in front of Grattan Bells. Trevathan was fourth and Liberty Bond next. Farewell Handicap After getting badly away Prize Ring took charge when they reached the back stretch in the Farewell Hack Handicap and led Red Hope, Lance Wing. Dash o' Dublin, Sal and Carolyn round the top. Prize Ring led into the straight, but Lance Wing came on and beat him by over four lengths. Carolyn was a length and a-half away, with Red Hope and Sal next.
