INVERCARGILL TRACK WORK

(Special) INVERCARGILL, Oct. 22. The final gallops by horses with engagements at Gore to-morrow took place yesterday morning under comparatively favourable conditions. All the fast work was done on the course proper 35 feet out from the rails, and the going was a bit on the soft side. Aurora Australis set the main for the morning over a sprint distance when she left six furlongs behind in lmin 19 4-ssec. She ran the last half in company with Inscrutable in 52sec and the latter was doing it-better in front at the finish. Invulnerable was running on better than Nigger Lad at the end of six furlongs In lmin 20 4-ssec, the last four in 54 3-ssec. Invulnerable pulled up well. Sal beat Carolyn over six furlongs in lmin 21 4-ssec, the last four In 55 l-ssec. Sal was keen on her task and has been shaping like an early winner. _ Great Coon was running on better than Nigger Miss over six furlongs in lmin 22 l-ssec, the last four In 54 3-ssec. Royal Lancer was too good for Royal Chorus in a bout over a mile. The first half was run In 54 2-sscc and Royal Lancer was clear at the finish to record lmin 50 l-ssec. the best time of the morning over the distance. Royal Chorus had the outside running and covered extra ground, but he was tiring at the finish. Royal Lancer will be ridden by K. Wilson and Royal Chorus will have the services of the stable apprentice, J. Thompson. , „ , After taking 58 4-ssec to run the first four furlongs Benbecula was picked up bv Signal Officer and came home solidly over the last half mile to register lmin 52 3-ssec for a mile. The last half was left behind in 53 4-ssec and Signal Officer had his neck in front at the finish. Benbecula will be ridden by J. Dooley., Royal Brief and Jack o’ Lantern ran seven furlongs in lmin 35 4-ssec, the last four in 55 3-ssec, with Jack o’ Lantern finishing on the better on the Inner. Jack o’ Lantern will contest the Highweight Handicap in preference to the Farewell Handicap at Gore and will be ridden by B. Mears. He is very fit. Royal Brief has two engagements and may start in both. Fuzzy Wuzzy and Slegdowa sprinted five furlongs In lmin Bsec, with the former finishing on well on the outer. Psalm dashed over three furlongs In bold style and recorded the excellent time of 39sec.

Pocket Flash gave a good display over a round of the hurdles. He will not race at Gore.

Fair Trial left for Gore on Friday. He will be ridden by W. F. Ellis.
