VERA de ORO SUCCESSFUL (P.A.) GREYMOUTH, Oct. 22. The first day of the Greymouth Trotting Club's spring meeting was held in fine weather, and the track was in good order, in spite of recent rain. There was a large attendance, and the totaiisator increase was £2314 10s, last year’s figure being I £18.301. I

Millie Wrack was fourth. Scratched: Joy’s Pal, Julie. Time, 3mlh 45 2-ssec. Two lengths, four lengths. Midland Handicap, of £l5O. Eight furlongs and a-half. —6/7 Netherby, 12yds bhd (T. McCusland). 1; 1/1 Paperman, scr (W. Butt), 2; 7/9 Real Nugget, scr (M. J. McTigue), 3. Red Setter was fourth. Scratched: Golden Glow, Johnny Boy, Lee Berry, Nile Lass, Noble Reta. Bien Sur was scratched. Time, 4min 39 3-ssec. Half a length, two lengths. Mawhera Handicap, of £250. Twelve furlongs and a-half.—l/1 Vera de Oro, scr (Thompson), 1; 5/5 Gold Sheik, scr (Isaacson), 3/2 Pocket Book, scr (Butt), 3. Golden Shadow was fourth. Scratched: Paul Collette. Time, 3min 34sec. Half a length, four lengths. Gold Bar, driven by F. Holmes, attempted to break the track record of 2min ssec, established in 1933 by Harold Logan, but, facing a strong easterly wind, recorded 2min 7sec. The time for the first half was lmin 2sec. Royal Oak Handicap, of £l5O. Twelve furlongs and a-half. —2/5 Bingen’s Colleen, scr (Butt), 1; 1/1 Port Bowen, scr (Carmichael), 2; 7/7 Hidden Note, scr (Lockhead), 3. Comprls was fourth. All started. Time, 3min 46 l-ssec. Half a head, a neck.
Blaketown Handicap, of £l5O. Ten furlongs and a-half.—3/3 Ingle Belmer, scr (C. Bryce), 1; 2/2 Avondale Lass, scr (J. Fraser), 2; 4/4 Diamond Jim, 12yds bhd (Butt). 3. Quite Game was fourth.
