NOTES FROM RICCARTON

(Special) CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 21. The trial grass at Riccarton was slow this morning afte* rain. Some useful gallops were done by candidates for the North Canterbury meeting on Monday. Lord Advocate and Justitia did the best seven furlongs, the former holding his mate in lmin 31 l-ssec. after doing the first three in 37 3-ssec. Gamble took lmin 33 2-ssec, Rout and Double Cross lmin 35 Palfrey and Arustra ran their first half in 50 S-ssec, the former drawing away to be three lengths in front at the end of a mile in lmin 44 3-ssec. Rahiri did lmin 45sec alone, at an even pace. Over six furlongs Koa Manu beat Miss Medley in lmin 20 2-ssec and Olga's Choice drew out from My Sonnet in lmin 20 3-ssec, while Authentic took lmin 21sec and Weld Cona lmin 23sec. Burberry ran five furlongs very well in lmin 5 l-ssec, and Wise Girl beat Bill Gundi by half a length in lmin 5 2-ssec. Simon for and Trench Law were much too good for Sir Tague in lmin 6 l-ssec. Siegwood and Sunny Sal took lmin 7sec, which Cinderella, Ration, King Burn, and Miss Myra equalled. Dash o’ Dink and St. Joachim ran half a mile in 51 3-ssec, Falconbridge taking 51 4-ssec, Good Friend 52 l-ssec. Other horse were kept to light tasks.
