RAPID ADVANCE

BRITISH DRIVE IN GREECE CLOSING IN ON LAMIA (Rec. 9 p.m.) RUGBY, Oct. 21. Advancing rapidly in Central Greece, the British are nearing Lamia, 60 miles beyond Thebes, 90 miles north-west of Athens and 120 miles south of Salonika. A Mediterranean communique states that Lamia, from which the enemy is reported to have withdrawn, is being approached by British patrols. Offensive operations by our air forces in Greece are being carried out. Additional troops and supplies have been landed. To reach Lamia, the British will pass Thermopylae. Although the heavy demolitions at Piraeus are delaying the unloading of ships, measures for the relief of the civilian population are now being started.
