WESTLAND WELL CLOSED The New Zealand Petroleum Com-, pany has closed down the first well in the Westland area after drilling to 7000 feet with negative results. It is expected an announcement of the company’s intentions regarding further operations in the area will be made within a week or two. . . A bulletin has been issued by the company as follows:-*- 11 No Town No. 1 well was completed at a depth of 6942 feet in basement rocks on September 30, 1944, with negative results. The Cobden limestone formation, , which was penetrated between 6733 feet and 6850 feet, was tested and produced only salt water and carbon-dioxide gas.’
