OVER 2000 HEAVY BOMBERS GERMAN CITIES POUNDED (Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 20. Over 1000 heavy bombers of the R.A.F. continued the air assault on Germany last night, when they attacked the cities of Stuttgart and Nuremburg. Stuttgart was attacked twice, and when the second force of Lancasters roared over the target great fires were visible below through the cloud. , ■ Thick cloud and Icing conditions had to be contended with, and the bombing was done with the aid of sky and ground markers. _. . More than 1000 United Fortresses and Liberators, escorted by more than 700 Thunderbolts and Mustangs, attacked military targets at Mainz and in the LudwigshavenMannheim area, in South-western Germany, in daylight yesterday. The objectives were covered by clouds, and bombing was done by instruments. These Rhine cities contain large railway marshalling yards and numerous industries important to the German war machine, such ns armoured vehicle works, ordnance and oil depots, and chemical plants. _ .
