CZECH RESISTANCE
ENEMY DRIVE SLOWED DOWN (Rec. 8 p.m.) RUGBY, Oct. 5. In their drive through mountainous country to effect a junction of their northern and southern forces for a joint advance against Czechoslovak patriot forces at Banska and Bystrica, the Germans are meeting stiff resistance. This is clear from Thursday’s Czechoslovak communique, which says: “The fury of the fight at Svaty Kris, on the Hron River,. in Southwestern Slovakia, diminished on Wednesday. Our forces carried out successful counter-attacks, improving their positions south-west of Carnovic and at Trubin, both south-west of Svaty Kris. In the Turec Valley the enemy are attacking near Diviaky, a township guarding one of two passages from Turec Valley to that of Hron. Fighting continues. Our air force supported the land troops and successfully attacked enemy convoys carrying supplies.”
