ANIMAL WELFARE WEEK
COMMENCING ON MONDAY Animal Welfare Week is held throughout the world during the month of October. In Otago this week will be held from Monday next. The objects are to remind citizens of their duty towards dumb animals and birds. Pamphlets have been distributed to schools throughout Otago, and school teachers have been asked to give special lessons to their pupils. Ministers and superintendents of Sunday schools have also been requested to bring this matter before their congregations and Sunday school pupils. Anybody witnessing any acts of cruelty or neglect is urged immediately to report them to the Otago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, which will investigate the matter. The society employs an inspector, but he has largely to depend on information received from those witnessing acts of cruelty. In this way, everyone can become an agent of the society. During the week essay competitions will be held amongst school children.
