ST. JAMES THEATRE
A RIOTOUS COMEDY Bud Abbott and Lou Costello are again to be seen in the sparkling comedy “Hold That Ghost,” which is the new attraction at the St. James. Playing in support of the comedians are such well known stars as Richard Carlson, Joan Davis, Mischa Auer, and the Andrews Sisters, with Ted Lewis and his orchestra supplying the musical accompaniments. “ Hold That Ghost ” presents a stronger story than the previous films of the series, and commences with the two comedians running a service station under the names of Chuck Murray and Ferdinand Jones. As a sideline they secure jobs as relief waiters in a new night club, where Ted Lewis and his orchestra and the Andrews sisters provide the entertainment. Accidentally Chuck and Ferdinand become entangled with a gangster, who meets’ a violent death, and the pair inherit, under his strange will, an abandoned tavern, supposedly the cache for his ill-gotten gains. The mystery is eventually solved and the picture reaches a climax with the conversion of the tavern into a health resort. " The Mad Ghoul,” a sensational thriller, with Turhan Bey, Evelyn Ankers. David Bruce, George Zuco and others in featured roles, is a strong supporting film. The box plans are at the theatre, the D.1.C., and Jacobs’s.
