LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

PROVINCIAL MEETING At the seventeenth annual meeting of the Otago Provincial Committee of the League of Mothers. Mrs G. H. Seddon presided over a gratifying attendance of representatives from town and country branches. Those welcomed to the committee included new branch presidents and secretaries, and Mrs Mayhew. Invercargill. Mrs Patrick, Riverton, and Mrs Ruston. Timaru. Mention was made of the death of Mrs S. M. Park, and the respect in which she was held by members gave rise to the following tribute: “ That a minute of appreciation be recorded of the services rendered by Mrs Park to the League of Mothers since its inception, and of her loyal and increasing interest in its work, her readiness to speak at (iranch meetings, and to assist officers with her valuable advice on matters of administration. We should like to pay tribute also to her devotion to any_ cause | which benefited women in general.’ i In her opening remarks, the president urged members to continue to remembel the aims and objects of the league, because although final victory on the battle front was now assured, and we could look forward with confidence to the future, we must keep ever before us the ideals of honesty, fairness, and faith, so that the i terrible loss of life and destruction Which I had taken place would not be in vain. Mrs Wight, wool secretary, reported that articles knitted during the year totalled 1097 garments. She emphasised that the need for knitted comforts was as great as ever, and urged members not to relax , their efforts in this direction. The annual report showed an increasing membership, 130 new members being enrolled during the year. The balance sheet revealed a satisfactory financial position. Mrs C G Hedge; assistant and supplies secretary Mrs J. Davidson; magazine distributor. Mrs R. Galbraith; magazine reporter, Mrs Matthews: war services secretary Mrs D. Y. M. Millar; wool secretary, Mrs’ W. Wght; executive—Mesdames Jones. Mclver, Hedge. Davidson, Galbraith, Matthews, Seddon. Harris. Millar, Robinson. Watson, Brown, and Cooper; delegate to National Council of Women. Mrs L. D. Mclver; delegate to Pioneer Women s Memorial Association, Mrs T. Macgregor. Expressing the application of branches to the retiring president, Mrs Coatsworth, president of Stirl’ng branch, said that Mis Seddon had always given of her best to (lie league. She presented Mrs Seddon with a bouquet, and a formal vote ot thanks was carried with acclamation. Caversham.—Mrs Davidson presided. The thought was, “ No one is useless In ! this world who lightens the burden of t ! for someone else. ’ Mrs Stanley Han is gave an entertaining account of a . five months’ tour of the Continent by car, describing some of the customs in the various countries and giving many amusing incidents which occurred during her travels. -Two violin solos by Miss Edith Wallace, accompanied by Mrs Wallace, and two vocal solos by Mrs McCrostie were much appreciated.
